VOLUNTEERING
Are you looking for in-person volunteering opportunities in Jacksonville, FL? Communities In Schools has many opportunities available for interested volunteers. Here's a glimpse of what you can do to help us make a positive impact:
Take the first step in your volunteer journey by completing the CIS Volunteer Form!
GUEST SPEAKING
Do you have experience and knowledge to share? Become a guest speaker and inspire young minds to reach for their dreams. Share your professional journey and insights on where you work, what you do, what it’s like, and how students can achieve the same success. By answering questions such as "What do you do for a living?" “What advice do you have for students who want a career like yours?" and “What kind of educational path is needed for your career?”, you can open doors to new possibilities for students. These guest speaking opportunities expose students to career options they may not be familiar with.
If you're more comfortable speaking as part of a group, consider joining our career panels. CIS hosts career panel opportunities, wherein three to four professionals from your company or different industries can bring a variety of experiences that speak to the diverse backgrounds and goals that our students have.
Workforce development is a focus area for high school students across all program areas. CIS strives to do everything possible, not only to prepare them for graduation but also to equip them for a successful future. Your contribution can play a vital role in shaping their career aspirations.
If you are interested in guest speaking, please contact us at volunteer@cisjax.org.
LITERACY DAYS
Literacy is the foundation of education, and you can play a pivotal role in nurturing it. Students up to third grade are in the crucial stage of learning to read, while those in fourth grade and beyond are reading to learn. Participate in our Literacy Days by reading to children. This simple act can have profound effects, enhancing their language and listening skills, stimulating their imagination, and improving their creativity.
If you or a group from your company or organization would like to read to students during one of our literacy days, please contact us at volunteer@cisjax.org. Your involvement can contribute to building a brighter future for our young readers.
WINTER WISHES
Spread the holiday cheer by participating in Winter Wishes. Winter Wishes is a great way for businesses and groups to connect with students in the Jacksonville community in need of extra wishes this holiday season. Your group or organization will sponsor a group of 5-10 students by providing holiday gifts from the students' wishlist. There is also an opportunity to host lunch at the school and deliver the gifts.
If you or a group from your company or organization would like to participate in Winter Wishes, please contact us at volunteer@cisjax.org.
